The Story: Call them a moshpit—Bad Rabbits is the definition of different characters and tones joining together to create a monumental sound. The root of Bad Rabbits is like a coalition between Prince’s “When Doves Cry” and Chubb Rock’s "Treat 'Em Right." It’s that early 90’s R&B found on VH1Soul, but it’s also punk rock. With something for the girls and the guys, everyone wins.
Bad Rabbits are what America is all about. As an American paired with first-generation members from India, Argentina, Ghana, and Israel, they say it best:
“F***immigration reform – if the pitiful pilgrims running this country had any taste in music at all, Bad Rabbits would be the gang breaking down borders and barriers from coast to coast and album to album.”
Bad Rabbits' introduction to the world was in 2009 with the release of the Stick-Up Kids EP, to underground acclaim. After signing a street wear deal with Karmaloop, they followed with national tours with Mike Posner, Travie McCoy, Far East Movement and Foxy Shazam. It wasn’t long before Teddy Riley of “New Jack Swing” fame came knocking on their door. With him, the group was led into the studio to begin production on their debut LP American Love, which they will be releasing on May 14.
You may have caught the Bad Rabbits fever in the 617, or you may have seen them rock their heads hard to electric guitar riffs and falsettos and synchronize dance (yeah, theydo a mean two step), at last years Afro-Punk. Needless to say this band is about to take over your town, and propel you to shake it.
Coloring Outside The Lines Because: Although Bad Rabbits resemble 90’s R&B, there’s no real such thing as a “slow jam” in their book. It's not only the extremely high energy that makes for their appeal, but the no-nonsense lyrics that do well behind their animated production; not to mention Dua's vocals runneth over with incredible range. They have the potential to sell out a venue, and keep the seats empty-for no one can plop down in a chair when Bad Rabbits commence.
Think: Adrenaline rush, neon, asking your teacher to make that shrill chalk sound on the board again, House Party, rhythm & blues/punk/hip-hop/new-age funk.
