The Story: Sid Sriram
has been singing all of his life, and it’s clear that fresh out the womb, he
wasted no time. At the age of four he was put in Carnatic music classes (classical
Indian music classes) where he learned vocal control and various ranges.
His first taste in music led him on a journey of testing out
different genres, such as in 8th grade, where he learned of the depths
of Donny Hathaway, the marvel of Stevie Wonder, and the soulfulness of Luther Vandross. Pop and hip-hop
reigned in high school, up until his attendance at Berklee College of Music where he
got into indie rock.
Graduating from Berklee, Sid found his style to be a mixture
of all of the elements to which he knew so dear: R&B, hip-hop, Indian, Soul,
Electronic, and Indian/Alternative. He put himself to work posting video’s on
YouTube such as the Weeknd’s “High
For This,” and a famed and heartfelt “We All Try” by Frank Ocean. Releasing two EP’s in 2012 (A Conscious Mind and Daydream)
expanded his fan base; the young singer ended up hitting 4.3 million YouTube
views.
Sid has had the opportunity of working with one of his
beloved Indian performers, AR Rahman, singing “Adiye” from the upcoming movie, Kadal,
out in February 2013. As for
now, Sid had just released a single out called “Elevate,” showing his strong
vocal runs and songwriting capabilities. It’s just a matter of time before the
roof tears off and Sid Sriram gets signed. Start the countdown.
Coloring Outside The Lines Because: There’s something about
watching Sid Sriram’s cover video of “We All Try” that gives life, and evokes
the true meaning of the song as it was meant to be heard. It’s Sids riffs,
quality and aesthetics, the pleasantry, that make anything he sings a piece of
art.
