Brooklyn came out last night for Summerstage’s first show of the season. With hosts Laura Stylez and Ebro from Hot 97, Red Hook Park was live for Phony PPL and Troy Ave., and crowd was full of die-hard fans of both ready to jam.
First up, Brooklyn collective Phony PPL got the crowd
up-and-going with an eclectic mix of their own songs from their album, Yesterday’s Tomorrow and some covers as
well. PJ and Elbee Thrie’s “I got a main chick, and a side chick,” prompted the
song “Baby, Meet My Lover.” They then followed with “End of the Night” rocking
out the bridge with a few metal inspired electric guitar riffs. Next was “Take
a Chance, and a Michael Jackson inspired “You Rock My World,” before seg-waying
that into the beginning of Busta Rhymes’ “Pass the Courvoisier.” They ended
with “Why I Love The Moon,” and gave the floor over to the next guests, Troy
Ave. and B$B.

Troy Ave and the B$B crew started off with “Bang Bang,” sans
50 following with “Show Me Love." He then did
his remix of Childish Gambino’s “3005” before announcing that he had an album
coming out tomorrow, Major Without A
Deal.” He then gave the floor over to Young Lito who performed “Wolves and
Snakes,” part a-cappella.
The crowd went wild for the B$B crew’s dances on stage
during “Doo Doo;” it was followed by “Your Style,” and “Real *****,” Troy
performing the song with his phone out and his back to the stage, recording
himself and the audience’s excitement to be in the impromptu video. They followed with “All About the Money,” a solid start to the summer music season ahead.--GB
