It's about time to get to know the musical collective, Phony PPL. The Brooklyn crew has been rocking live shows all around the world, but never forgets to take it back to their own doorstep. Phony PPL has a new album called Yesterday's Tomorrow, but staunch phonies know about their first release of Phonyland in 2012. Since then, they've performed with The Roots, Theophilus London, and released numerous solo projects.

Croon. Wail. Chirp. Trill. There must be a ton of words to describe this next singers pipes, the soft bawl of his falsetto, and unmatched soul. His name is Francesco Yates, and the 18-year-old’s voice is its own introduction.

It was the classic Jack Black flick School Of Rock that bolstered Francesco’s drive to become the next superstar, as he spent his summers since age 11 supplementing his amazing voice with the learning of piano and guitar.

The Canadian native has recently dropped the single “Call” after two stunning covers of Kendrick Lamar's “Swimming Pools” and Miguel's “Adorn.” The debut album is untitled as of late, but check out these five facts about pop’s next trailblazer to be schooled for when the time comes.—GB

Watching the tribal, regal, and rural video to "Green Garden," one can’t help but notice the ponderous vocals of Laura Mvula. She’s next on the come up of soul inspired artists. It’s that rumbling, humming soul, the sort of tones that rush into the heart, as if to soften it; the force and tow of pitch and power, all under unrivaled control, that makes her one to watch for 2013. She’s up next for the spotlight, earning a Brit Award nomination in the category of  “Critic's Choice, " without even putting out an album.

She started off as a supply teacher in a Birmingham secondary school, with a degree from the Birmingham Conservatoire in composition. With theatric roots, African rhythms, and some unexpected surprises, Laura Mvula’s debut album, Sing To The Moon, set for release on March 4, is sure to pique your eardrums, and your interest.
